🏔️ Geography
Koshi Province is the easternmost province of Nepal, stretching from the flat agricultural plains of the southern Terai to the highest peaks of the Himalayas in the north. This incredible region is characterized by an unparalleled geographic diversity, encompassing the lowest point of Nepal in Kachankawal, Jhapa (59m above sea level) and the summit of Mount Everest (Sagarmatha) in Solukhumbu, which represents the highest peak on Earth. The territory covers five distinct bioclimatic zones, creating a sanctuary for rich biodiversity, including endangered snow leopards, red pandas, wild water buffaloes, and over 500 bird species.
🏛️ Culture & History
Koshi Province is home to major ethnic groups including the indigenous Kirati communities (Rai and Limbu) in the hills, Tibetan-influenced Bhotia and Sherpa groups in the high mountains, and diverse groups like Rajbanshi, Tajpuria, and Santhal in the southern plains. The province is highly unique for its tri-religious shrines like Halesi Mahadev (Maratika Cave), historic fortresses of ancient Sen kingdoms, and sprawling agricultural landscapes producing some of the world's finest organic orthodox tea and black large cardamom.
