Ramechhap (रामेछाप)

Ramechhap is a mountainous district northeast of Kathmandu, famous for the Manthali Airport, which serves as an alternative gateway to the Everest region, especially during the Lukla flight disruptions. The district is home to the sacred Dolakha Bhimsen Temple (in a neighboring district) and the picturesque Churiya Mai Temple. Ramechhap is predominantly inhabited by Tamang, Newar, Sherpa, and Brahmin-Chhetri communities, with rich cultural traditions. The district features diverse geography, from the Tama Kosi River gorge to high-altitude peaks, making it attractive for adventure tourism, including rafting and trekking. Agriculture, animal husbandry, and remittances form the economic backbone, with many residents working abroad or in trekking/tourism services. Ramechhap's strategic location on the BP Highway and proximity to Everest makes it increasingly important for tourism infrastructure development. The district offers stunning views of Langtang and Gauri Shankar peaks.
